How to Pick the Right Lift Chair for Your Home

A lift chair is a long-term investment in your comfort and independence. The right chair helps you stand up safely, relax in the perfect position and rest deeply at the end of the day. The wrong chair can leave you sore, frustrated and out of pocket. Here's what to consider before you buy.

1. Get the size right

A lift chair should support you like a tailored garment. Measure your height, your weight and the distance from the back of your knee to your heel. If your feet dangle or your knees press into the seat edge, you'll feel it within minutes. Australian-made and imported brands sit very differently — always sit in one before committing if you can.

2. Single, dual or infinite-position motor?

Single-motor chairs recline the back and footrest together. Dual-motor (and infinite-position) models move them independently — useful for swelling in the legs, reflux, or finding a true zero-gravity rest position. If you'll spend hours a day in the chair, dual motor is almost always worth the upgrade.

3. Fabric, support and extras

  • Stain-resistant fabric or wipe-clean leather if you'll eat or drink in the chair
  • Lumbar and head support that suits your posture
  • Battery backup so the chair lifts you out during a power outage
  • Heat & massage if you live with chronic pain or stiffness
  • USB charging and side pockets for daily essentials

4. Don't forget the doorways

Lift chairs are bigger than they look online. Measure every doorway, hall and turn between the front door and where the chair will live. Our delivery team can help — we deliver, set up and remove all packaging so you don't have to.
